Burman Blazes Into Briercrest

Thursday, February 27th saw the Briercrest Clippers host the Burman Bobcats. The Briercrest women’s team was looking to break their two-game losing streak while the men sought to extend their win streak to three.


The Briercrest women’s team opened the scoring for the game, going up by five points right off the start. The two teams would continue to battle, with the Clippers leading by two up 13-11 after the first quarter. However, Burman would outscore Briercrest by 4 points in the second quarter, taking a two-point lead and going into the half up 30-28. Briercrest would then unleash an offensive onslaught, scoring 18 points in the third quarter compared to Burman’s 12, retaking the lead 46-42 at the end of the third quarter. But Burman put on an impressive defensive effort in the fourth quarter, only allowing Briercrest to score 7 points. The Bobcats would go on to take the game 65-53. Player of the game for Burman went to #12 Hellen Odong, who put up 20 points, 2 rebounds, and 1 steal. For Briercrest, it went to #4 Dayna Sewell who recorded 24 points, 9 rebounds, 3 steals, and 1 block. The two teams will face each other again at 12PM on Friday.


In the men’s game, the Bobcats came out shooting, hitting two threes to start the quarter and gaining a six-point lead on the Clippers. But Briercrest would get their feet under them, scoring 19 points in the first quarter to end only down 21-19. In the second quarter the Clippers hit the ground running, keeping it a close match with the bobcats. However, in the final minutes, Burman would put up six points to broaden their lead going into halftime up 42-34 on the Clippers. In the third quarter the Bobcats took full control, outscoring the Clippers 27-9, entering the final quarter up 69-43. The Bobcats would continue to dominate and pulled the game to a close with a 38-point lead, besting the Clippers 93-55. Player of the game for the Bobcats went to #10 Dave Dery, putting up 28 points, 13 rebounds, 1 block and 1 steal. For Briercrest, the player of the game went to #4 Damon Berggren, who recorded 12 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 steals. The two teams will face off tomorrow at 2PM.
