Millar Men, Briercest Women Take Provincial Volleyball Titles

Intense finals, crown Millar Edge and Briercrest Clippers 2017 Champions.

The PAC Volleyball season came to a close November 25th with the Women’s Briercrest Clippers Edging out the Saskatoon Amaruks 3-2 (8-25, 21-25, 25-22, 25-20, 15-11) in the final and the Millar Edge Men defeating the Prince Albert Wild 3-1 (16-25, 25-18, 25-22, 25-21).

This year’s PAC Provincials did not disappoint with both champions mounting comeback efforts to earn their PAC Titles. The Women’s Briercrest Clippers (2nd overall) suffered their first lost in their very first match to the Prairie pilots (3rd overall). The Clippers would now have to work their way back up to the finals with three elimination matches in their way. Three matches up and three matches down, The Clippers defeated the Millar Edge, Great Plains College Sundogs, and Prairie Pilots to earn a spot in the final against The Saskatoon Amaruks who cruised to the final. The Amaruks jumped out to a two sets to none lead meaning The Clippers would have to make yet another comeback. Three sets later The Briercrest Clippers are the PAC Women’s Volleyball Provincial Champions. Sydney Klassen who won League MVP also took home Provincial Tournament MVP for her strong performance.

On the Men’s side the Millar Edge who placed second overall in league play, matched up against the Great plains College Sundogs (7th overall). With a two sets to none win The Edge would now have to play against the Moose Jaw Panthers who placed just one spot behind them in the league standings. Millar earned another sweep beating The Panthers 25-17 and 25-23. That win set The Millar Edge to play the Prince Albert Wild who defeated the Prairie Pilots and Saskatoon Amaruks to earn a spot in the first semi-final. A Very intense 3 set match ensued with The Edge falling two sets to one (25-20, 15-25, 13-15). Like Briercrest Women, Millar would now have to produce a comeback in yet another semi-final against the Amaruks who had fought their way back after their initial loss in game one. Millar came out flying defeating the Saskatoon Amaruks in straight sets. The rematch was set in the final between The Edge and The Wild. In the first set the Wild came to play with a convincing 25-16 win. That loss seamed to sharpen up the Edge allowing them to take the next three sets 25-18, 25-22, 25-21 and becoming the Men’s PAC Volleyball Champions. Jens Eggen, from The Prince Albert Wild took home the Provincial MVP honours with a huge effort throughout.

Saskpolytech Prince Albert Campus would like to thank everyone for attending this year’s provincials. We would also like to express a special thanks for all the people who helped make this event happen and run smoothly. Until next year.
