Prairie Women Open Basketball Season At Home

It was a huge kick off to the basketball season for the Prairie Pilots women’s team as they defended their home court against the always dangerous Briercrest Clippers JV squad. The first couple games of the season happened on Friday, February 1st and Saturday, February 2nd, as the Clippers made their way to Three Hills, Alberta to face off against the home Prairie Pilots at the Rick Down Athletic Centre.

Friday’s game was a high-paced victory for the home team, sporting their white and orange jerseys. The Pilots fast-moving offense was too much for the Clippers to handle as the Lady Pilots won 74-30. The team was led by freshman phenom, Sarah Harken and Danielle Conway who combined for a total of 49 points.

While the beginning of Saturday’s match was more evenly spread, with a score of 22-14 for the Pilots at the half, unfortunately for the Clippers, the Pilots late game onslaught meant they would be heading back to Saskatchewan with two losses as the final score was 55-31 for the home team. Pilots captain Sierra Nelson’s second half performance was too much for Briercrest to handle as she skillfully put up 20 points.

The Lady Pilots next games are home to Millar Edge on February 8th & 9th.
